As our countrymen listened to the events of World War II on the radio, some GI’s were returning home to the U.S. Many were wondering how they would make a living. Job prospects were grim.
One young soldier – my Dad, Orlando Napoleone, returned home from his tour of duty in Okinawa.
He took a bride, Agnes Ventura from Castiglione, Italy, and began a retail fresh poultry business. The family soon grew with the birth of my sister and me. As a young boy, I soon joined my father on trips to buy live poultry and watched and listened how to properly prepare these chickens for sale, which included kosher preparation if the customer desired it.
The business grew to include canned and frozen products and we were one of the first Kraft distributors in the Pittsburgh area, supplying restaurants and country clubs, while continuing our walk-in business.
In the 1960’s, I joined the family business, and the company was officially incorporated as Aldo’s (using the first letter of each family member’s first name.) In 1997 our business moved from its previous location in Coraopolis to a new facility at 3275 Rt. 151 Independence Township, PA, and has expanded twice, making the warehouse four times the size of the original storefront location.
Today, the business continues to thrive with me as president and our third generation family members; my children, Deni Orlando (Sonny), Nina, and our Sales Manager, Marta.
Since the first day of opening our doors, we have kept the tradition of serving Pittsburgh’s local restaurants, bars, hotels and the surrounding area and of serving YOU, the public, and we will continue to dedicate ourselves to customer service, quality food, and family values. We welcome you to stop in and say “hi” to the family.
